MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii Police Department is continuing its investigation into the cause of death of an unidentified adult male whose body was found on Sunday (November 2, 2003). Police have now re-classified the case from a coroner’s inquest to a murder investigation after receiving preliminary results from the autopsy conducted on November 4, 2003. The autopsy results indicated he died as a result of multiple injuries to his body.

Police are renewing their request for the public’s assistance in identifying the victim who is described as an adult male, having a fair complexion, approximately 6’01” in height, having what appears to be salt and pepper colored hair, a 3″ scar on the front lower thigh of his right leg, wearing green and brown short swimming trunks with rear pockets that are red in color, and a green colored aloha print shirt.

Police believe that the male had been dead for several days prior to his body being discovered on Sunday, November 2, 2003, in the vicinity of the 12 mile marker off of the Saddle Road in the outskirts of Hilo. Anyone having information as to the identity of this adult male or having witnessed anything unusual in the Saddle Road area within the last few days is asked to contact Detective Jason Cortez of the Hilo Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2255 or to call Hilo Crimestoppers at 961-8300 or West Hawaii Crimestoppers at 329-8181.
