Big Island police are investigating the death of a six-month-old baby girl as a coroner’s inquest after the child died Sunday morning (July 31, 2005).

South Kohala patrol officers responding to a call from the North Community Hospital determined that the child died sometime between 10:40 and 11:40 a.m. at a Waikoloa Village residence.

Family members said the child was sleeping on a bed when they found her not breathing and unresponsive.

Family members called fire rescue personnel, who took the baby to the South Kohala hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:53 a.m.

Police have classified the death as a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing an investigation into the infant’s death.
