Police are looking for a Nissan pickup truck with front-end damage that caused another pickup to overturn, injuring its driver, on Thursday evening (August 4, 2004).
Responding to an 11:16 p.m. call Thursday, South Hilo patrol officers determined that the crash occurred on Kanoelehua Avenue near the Leilani Street intersection.
Witnesses said two vehicles were racing at the time when one of the racing vehicles rear-ended a 2003 Silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, causing the vehicle to lift and overturn. The female driver of the Tacoma was taken to the Hilo Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Witnesses described the vehicle responsible for the crash as a red or dark-colored Nissan pickup truck.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash or the identity of the driver or who sees a red or dark-colored Nissan pickup truck with front-end damage to call Officer Robert Pule of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2213 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
