Big Island police are looking for a lone gunman who robbed the 5-Spice food shop Friday (March 18, 2005) in the Puainako Shopping Center.

Responding to an 11:30 a.m. call, South Hilo patrol officers determined that a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt walked into the store, brandished a handgun and demanded money. He then reached across the counter, grabbed money from the cash register and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured in the robbery.

The suspect is described as a local male in his early 20s, being about 5-foot-4 in height, weighing 130 to 150 pounds with a thin build and having a dark complexion.

Anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or escape or who knows the identity of the robber is asked to call the police emergency number at 935-3311.
