MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police are looking for two masked men in camouflage clothing who approached a Puna resident Wednesday morning (April 20, 2005) in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision and made threats against the landowner.

Responding to a 6:45 a.m. call, Puna patrol officers determined that two men wearing hoods and carrying rifles approached an agriculture worker in the field on Beach Road.

The men asked who the owner of the property was, then warned the worker that the owner should “watch out.” The men then left and disappeared into the brush.

The property, about 100 acres of farmland, has “no trespassing” signs posted on it, and the owner said she has had problems in the past with hunters trespassing on her property.

The two armed men were described as possibly being “local,” each being about 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11 in height and weighing 180 to 190 pounds.

Police are asking anyone who has information about the incident or the knows the identity of the hooded men to call Officer Ruel Dalere of the Puna Patrol at 966-5835 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Police have classified the incident as a terroristic threatening and criminal trespass case.
