MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police are looking for two male suspects who allegedly tried to kidnap a female minor waiting at a school bus stop Monday morning (May 2, 2005) in the Honaunau area of South Kona.

Responding to a report of an attempted kidnapping, Kona patrol officers determined that the minor was waiting alone for the bus when a black compact sedan with two males inside drove up to her. The front seat passenger in the vehicle grabbed her wrist and attempted to pull her into the car. The female minor was able to break free and to run from the area. She sustained a minor injury to her head after falling to the ground as she fled from the scene.

The two male suspects within the vehicle were described as being in their early to middle 20s in age and wearing baseball caps.

The case has been referred to the West Hawaii Juvenile Aid Section for further investigation.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the incident or who may know the identity of the suspects to call Officer Walter Ah Mow of the West Hawaii JAS at 326-4646, Ext. 302, or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept strictly confidential.
