MEDIA RELEASE

A malfunction disrupted telephone service to the police non-emergency numbers for more than three hours Wednesday (August 18, 2005).

The outage, which occurred at 4:12 p.m., did not affect the emergency 9-1-1 service or Crime Stoppers numbers, Lieutenant Duane Rapoza, head of the Communications-Dispatch Section, said.

“Non-emergency incoming calls could not be received,” Rapoza said. “We could call out, but people couldn’t call in.

“However, all police services were provided without interruption.”

Hawaiian Telcom technicians had restored the service about 7:30 p.m.
