MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police have reclassified the death of a 35-year-old Kona man involved in a traffic collision August 10, 2003, on Napoopoo Road in South Kona.

Medical findings concluded that the driver of the vehicle suffered from cardiac arrhythmia due to mixed chemical intoxification and that the physical injuries sustained in the collision lacked significant evidence to cause death.

In view of the findings, the case has been reclassified from a Traffic Casualty Fatality and will not reflect in the count for traffic-related deaths.

Reclassification of the death will reduce the total of traffic-related deaths on the Big Island so far this year to 27, compared to 19 at the same time last year.
