MEDIA RELEASE

South Kohala police officers have recovered $10,000 worth of items taken in a burglary that occurred last month at a business in Waimea.

More than $15,000 in merchandise had been taken in the burglary, which occurred the night of January 29 or during the early morning of January 30, 2002, at C&S Outfitters of Waimea.

The suspects entered the establishment through the roof and stole a number of items, including skateboards, sunglasses and paintball guns.

Police officers have identified two suspects in the burglary and are investigating a third suspect.

South Kohala Patrol Officer Mark Haggerty was assigned full-time to the investigation of the burglaries. His investigation led to the identification of the suspects, not only for the burglary of C&S Outfitters, but another Waimea business establishment, Byrd’s Audio, two weeks earlier.

Haggerty is continuing his investigation in hopes of identifying other possible suspects involved in the break-ins of Waimea business establishments and the recovery of additional stolen items.

Captain Robert K. Ka’aua, commander of the South Kohala Police District, noted that several persons have called police with tips on the burglaries. Ka’aua thanked the public for their response to the police department’s appeal for the public’s assistance in solving the crimes.
