Big Island police have received updated photographs of the three inmates who escaped Sunday (October 2, 2005) from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center on Punahele Street in Hilo.
The three were identified as Shawn DeCosta, 25, Kole Kuokamakana Race-Joaquin, 23, and Franklin R. Enos, 31.
Police received a call from the facility about 11:10 p.m. from officials, who said the three inmates had escaped by removing the metal screen and louvers from a restroom window, then by tying bed sheets together, climbing up about 30 feet to the ground. The three inmates were last accounted for at about 8:11 p.m., during a check by Correctional personnel. Evidence at the scene indicated that the inmates appeared to have fled the area on foot towards Waianuenue Avenue.
Race-Joaquin is described as being 5-foot-7 in height, weighing about 190 pounds and having short black hair and brown eyes.
Enos is described as being 5-foot-5 in height, weighing about 150 pounds and having black hair and brown eyes.
DeCosta is described as being 5-foot-6 in height, weighing about 160 pounds and having black hair and hazel eyes.
Police said the men are considered dangerous and should not be approached.
Detectives from the East Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section will be continuing the investigation. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of any of the men is asked to call Detective Juergen Canda at 961-2381 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
