Big Island police are reminding the public that parking a vehicle displaying a “for sale” sign in the former Cow Palace and Hilo Theater and in the new Bayfront parking lots off Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo is prohibited.
According to Chapter 15, Article 2, Section 15-27, of the Hawaii County Code: “Commercial notices or advertisements shall not be displayed, posted or distributed on county lands within a park area unless prior written permission has been given by the (parks) director.”
Members of the public have been parking vehicles displaying the illegal “for sale” signs in parking lots under the jurisdiction of the parks department in violation of the County Code.
Since mid-October, Police officers have issued 47 citations for violations of the County Code and will continue doing so when vehicles are observed exhibiting a “for sale” sign.
Violators are required to appear in court on the date and time indicated on the citation.
