MEDIA RELEASE

Police are reminding Big Island motorists that it’s against the law to park in disabled parking stalls without a valid placard.

Sergeant Randy Apele, head of the Traffic Services Section, said any motorist using a parking space reserved for disabled persons without displaying a removable windshield placard or special license plate is subject to a fine of $250 to $500.

Apele also noted that it’s against the law to park in access aisles next to disabled parking stalls. The stalls, five to eight feet wide, are easily recognizable because they are marked by striping.

Police issued the reminder after receiving numerous complaints that unauthorized motorists were parking in disabled parking stalls.
