MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Big Island police have renewed a plea for the public’s help in the investigation of a bicycle-motor vehicle collision last May that resulted in the death of one of the contestants in the Keauhou-Kona Triathlon.

The victim, Wayne Scrimshaw, of Kailua-Kona, died on May 26, 2003, the day after the collision, which occurred on Queen Kaahumanu Highway about two-tenths of a mile north of the 84-mile marker in Kaupulehu, North Kona.

Investigating Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have received differing versions of the incident from witnesses and are continuing to seek information about the cause of the collision.

To date, police have not been able to locate the suspected vehicle involved in the collision.

On behalf of the family and friends of Wayne Scrimshaw, police are again asking anyone with a description of the vehicle, a description of the driver or any other information about the incident to call Sergeant Leroy Victorino of the TEU at 961-2332 in Hilo or at 326-4277 in Kona or to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
