MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Police have revised the number of major accidents that occurred last year.

The official count now stands at 2,362 major accidents, an increase of 5 percent over the 2,260 counted in 2002.

The 2003 total was reduced from 2,363 after one of the accidents was classified as minor.

During 2003, there were 35 traffic fatalities, compared to 28 for the previous year, an increase of 25 percent. Six of those fatalities were attributed to drunk driving, and two were drug-related.
