Police seek identity of guardrail thieves 03-22-04

Police are looking for the thief or thieves who stole a metal guardrail from the Hilo United Methodist Church on Waianuenue Avenue.

Police determined that the seven-foot-long galvanized metal guardrail was stolen sometime between Saturday night, March 13, 2004, and the following Sunday morning.

The three-foot-high railing, valued at $225, was erected to stop skate boarders from using the church walkway.

Anyone with information about the theft or the identity of the thieves is asked to call Officer Vince Sivankeo of the South Hilo Patrol at 961-2203 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
