Police Seek Identity of Possible Drowning Victim 10-28-00

Kona police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man whose body was found floating in the water Saturday (October 28, 2000) about 300 yards offshore of Kaiwi Point.

Responding to a 9:15 a.m. report, police determined that after the body was discovered, several persons participating in a canoe regatta retrieved the body and transported it to the Kailua Pier.

From there, Fire Rescue personnel transported the victim to the Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:29 a.m.

Police have classified the investigation as a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine cause of death.

The victim was described as a Caucasian male about 40 years old, being about 6 feet in height and having a fair complexion and brown hair. The victim was clad in shorts and walking shoes. No personal identification or jewelry was found on the body.
