Police Seek Information in Two Kona Thefts 01-03-01

Police are seeking the public’s help in solving two separate thefts that occurred in early December 2000 in Kailua-Kona.
In the first incident, between 11 p.m. Saturday, December 2, and Monday, December 4, someone entered the Kealakehe High School gymnasium and stole four large speakers, valued at $2,200, used for the winter dance.
Two of the speakers were described as black trapezoidal-shaped speaker boxes about 3 to 4 feet in height and containing two JBL 18-inch speakers with black grills. The other two were older, “homemade style” black speaker boxes about 3 to 4 feet in height with peeling paint and red carpeting on top. They contained two “W” bins speakers.
In the second incident, between 5 and 6 p.m. Monday, December 4, a thief or thieves broke into a blue Ford Windstar van parked on the far west side of the K-Mart parking lot and stole a car CD stereo system valued at $3,125 and some cash.
The stereo system is described as being a Sony CD head unit, 4 JL audio subwoofers contained in a customized green textured painted speaker box more than three feet wise, three Sony amplifiers, miscellaneous wiring, connectors and a gold-plated distribution block.
Anyone with information about the thefts or the whereabouts of the stolen items is asked to called Officer Marjorieann Santos of the Kona Patrol Division at 326-4646.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
