CRIME STOPPERS RELEASE
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a backhoe stolen sometime between May 28 and June 5, 1999, in West Hawaii.
The backhoe is a 1991 model 580K with the serial number of JJG0029244 and an internal Hawaii Bitumuls Co. number of 211. It is valued at $50,000.
The equipment was transported on May 28, 1999, from the West Hawaii Concrete temporary quarry off Waikoloa Road to the company’s permanent baseyard off Mamalahoa Highway in South Kohala. It was last seen being transported from the baseyard along Mamalahoa Highway in a semi-trailer truck being driven by an unknown driver on June 5, 1999.
An investigation has determined that the backhoe may be somewhere in Hilo.
Anyone with information about the driver or the whereabouts of the backhoe is asked to call police at 935-3311.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property. Crime Stoppers neither subscribes to “Caller ID,” nor does it record phone calls.
