Police have requested the public’s assistance in solving an assault case in which a Hilo woman was attacked last December in her Wainaku Avenue home.

Responding to a call on December 12, 2001, South Hilo patrol officers determined that a female was attacked in the bedroom of her home, located in the 400 block of Wainaku Avenue, by an unidentified male at about 1:25 a.m. The victim was asleep when the attacker entered her bedroom, awakened her and struck her on top of her head numerous times with an unknown instrument before fleeing the residence on foot.

The victim, who is still recovering from her wounds, described her attacker only as a male who was wearing dark baggy pants and an unknown colored shirt with a hood and no sleeves.
