Police Seek Public’s Help on Auto Thefts 10-19-00

Police are seeking information about a series of related auto thefts and burglaries that have occurred within the Old Industrial Area of Kailua-Kona.
On October 7, 2000, a State Harbor’s Division pickup truck was stolen from the Honokohau Harbor area. The truck was then driven to Stealth Audio, located on Luhia Street. The suspects then attempted to break into the car stereo shop, but were scared off by the alarm.
On October 12, 2000, a flatbed truck belonging to Alpha Electric on Pawai Place was stolen. The same morning, suspects broke into Stealth Audio and removed two MTX Audio Thunder amplifiers and four MTX subwoofer speakers valued at $2,644.
On October 19, 2000, suspects entered the Big Island Cycle Center on Alapa Street. They fled, however, when the alarm sounded. The stolen Alpha Electric truck was recovered at the scene.
Anyone with information about the thefts or the identities of the thieves is asked to call Officer Scott Kurashige of the Kona Patrol Division at 329-4208.
Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day. Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous. Callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if their call leads to an arrest, indictment or the recovery of property.
