MEDIA RELEASE

Police have reported another scam, this one in the form of a letter from Madrid, Spain, telling the intended victim that she had won $615,000.

The catch is that she could not collect the money unless she provided financial information, such as her bank account number, so the money could be deposited in her bank account.

Big Island police are reminding residents never to give out personal financial information, such as social security number, checking account number or savings account number to strangers.

“Never believe anyone who promises you’ll receive a large amount of money if you give them your bank account number,” a police spokesman said. “Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
