Police are warning Big Island residents to be aware of another telephone scam, this one soliciting credit card numbers in the name of the American Cancer Society.

Residents have reported receiving telephone calls from someone purporting to be a representative of the American Cancer Society. The caller then solicits a “donation” by cash or credit card asks for the intended victim’s credit card number.

The American Cancer Society said, however, it does not seek contributions via telephone.

They ask that if anyone with information about the latest scam to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
