MEDIA RELEASE

Police are warning Big Island residents about another scam, this one in the form of e-mail letter inviting the recipient to join him in an alleged scheme to move $40 million out of Liberia.

The e-mail letter is from a man claiming to be a friend of Charles Taylor, former warlord and president of Liberia, who was deposed and is now living in exile in Nigeria.

In the e-mail letter, the writer promises to give the recipient 10 percent of the funds and asks for his private telephone and fax number so the writer can contact him to transfer the alleged funds.

Police said the e-mail letter is merely the latest in a series of schemes originating in Nigeria.
