Big Island police are warning residents, particularly the elderly, about a new telephone scam.
Police say a number of elderly residents recently have reported receiving calls from someone who represents himself as a bank investigator who is investigating possible illegal withdrawals from the victim’s checking or savings account. The “investigator” then asks for the victim’s bank account number.
Police said the calls are fraudulent and caution residents never to reveal their checking or savings account numbers over the telephone to anyone.
