MEDIA RELEASE

Police are warning Big Island residents of a phone scam fraudulently soliciting donations to a children’s hospital.

Someone is calling Big Island residents and asking for donations to the Shriner’s Hospital.

Police said there is a Hawaii Island Shrine Club solicitation going on right now, but it is for the service organization’s Children’s Transportation Fund, not the Shriner’s Hospital.

Residents who want to check whether a telephone call asking for donations to the Shrine Club is legitimate may call Don Millard of the Hawaii Shrine Club at 959-2665.

For the Shrine Club’s Children’s Transportation Fund, donations should be sent to 335 Wailuku Drive.
