Police warning public of telephone scam 10-27-04

Big Island Police are warning the public of another possible telephone scam. Several residents have reported receiving suspicious telephone calls at home within the past week.

In all reported incidents, the callers have either identified themselves as an employee of the government or other legitimate business entity. During the conversation, the caller solicits personal bank account information.

Residents are reminded, that they should not give out personal financial information, such as social security number, checking account number or savings account number during the course of a phone call to unknown individuals.
