MEDIA RELEASE

An autopsy performed Tuesday on the body of a 17-year-old Hakalau youth found dead on Friday (August 12, 2005) has not identified the exact cause of his death.

The pathologist has deferred his determination of the cause of death for Aaron Hanson pending further study of toxicology and tissue samples. The investigation thus far has not indicated the presence of foul play, but it has not yet been ruled out.

At about 10 a.m. on Friday, Aaron Hanson was reported missing from his Hakalau home by his father. Aaron was reportedly last seen at about 2 a.m. on the previous Wednesday.

A ground and aerial search of the area of the Hansons’ home and surrounding acreage began immediately and involved members of the police and fire departments. Just before 3 p.m. that day, the young man’s father found his body submerged in the family’s fishpond.

The case is classified as a coroner’s inquest.
