Tionis Kiniol
Charged with attempted murder

MEDIA RELEASE

Police have charged 26-year-old Tionis Kiniol of Puna with attempted second-degree murder in connection with a domestic violence incident in the Eden Roc subdivision on Sunday (July 29) just before midnight .

Puna patrol officers responded to a home in the upper Puna subdivision after receiving a report that the male suspect had attacked a 20-year-old Eden Roc woman with a machete and struck her on the head. A short time later, responding officers confronted the victim and suspect (both in separate vehicles) on a roadway in the subdivision.

The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she received treatment for her injuries. She was later released.

The suspect was taken into custody at 11:40 p.m. Sunday.

Detectives investigating the case also learned of another violent incident over the weekend between the victim and suspect. As a result, detectives also charged Kiniol with first-degree terroristic threatening and one count each of a misdemeanor and felony abuse of a family or household member.  He was charged at 11 a.m. Tuesday (July 31).

Due to an unrelated bench warrant, Kiniol is being held at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $56,000 bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for this afternoon (August 1).

Police ask anyone with information about either of these cases to call Detective Alston Kimura at 961-2278 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.
