MEDIA RELEASE

Police are reminding residents and visitors alike to guard against break-ins when parking their cars at scenic and recreational sites around the island, particularly in Puna.

The reminder was prompted by a recent rash of break-ins into vehicles parked at Kehena and Ahalanui Beach Parks in Puna.

Thieves are breaking into parked vehicles at the two popular parks and stealing valuables and other personal items. Police said the thieves are especially targeting rented vehicles.

To discourage such break-ins, the police are reminding motorists to take their valuables and personal items with them before locking and leaving their vehicles.

In the meantime, police officers are stepping up operations to apprehend the thieves responsible for the latest rash of car break-ins.
