Five armed men robbed a Puna couple Tuesday night (March 12, 2002) at their house in the Kapoho Farm Lots near Pahoa.

The robbers, at least three of them armed with rifles, robbed the couple of an undisclosed amount of cash and other items, then fled in an unknown vehicle.

The male victim told police he heard dogs barking outside about 9:15 p.m. When he opened the front door to investigate, he was punched in the face by one of the robbers, who then burst into the room.

The female victim suffered no injuries during the robbery.

Hilo Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing an investigation into the case.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of any of the robbers is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Callers will be given a coded number and their identity will remain anonymous.
