Media Release (update)

After conferring with prosecutors, police released Bobby K. Jimenez from police custody Monday morning (June 1) pending further investigation of a fatal car/motorcycle crash.

Thirty-six-year-old Thomas G. Reimer and his son, 7-year-old Thomas G. Reimer Jr., were killed in the crash Sunday evening at the intersection of Route 130 and Ainaloa Boulevard in Pāhoa.

Responding to a 7:33 p.m. call, Puna patrol officers and traffic investigators determined that the father and son were on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle and traveling south on Route 130. Jimenez, 21, of Pāhoa, was operating a 1999 Mazda four-door-sedan northbound and initiated a left turn onto Ainaloa Boulevard in a 1999 Mazda four-door sedan.

The father and son, who were wearing helmets, were transported to the Hilo Medical Center where they were pronounced dead at 11:33 p.m.

Jimenez was arrested for two counts of negligent homicide, promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree and no-no fault insurance. He was held at the East Hawaii Detention Center pending further investigation until his release Monday morning (June 1). Traffic Enforcement Unit officers are continuing the investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information on this crash call Officer Michael Molnar at 961-2293.

These were the 10th and 11th traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year compared with 11 at this time last year.
