Puna police and members of various community, youth and church groups will be waving signs to warn motorists against drinking and driving during the holiday season.

Taking part in the project will be Puna Community Policing, Traffic Enforcement Unit and Puna Patrol officers and members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Keaau High School football team and other church and youth organizations.

On Friday, November 5, 1999, at 1 p.m. and again at 4 p.m., participants will wave signs along the Keaau-Pahoa Highway (Route 130) near Keaau High School.

On Tuesday, November 9, 1999, at 4 p.m., they will wave signs along the Volcano Highway (Route 11) in front of Shipman Park.

The sign waving will be followed by numerous DUI roadblocks throughout the Puna District, police said, adding that traffic enforcement efforts will be increased throughout the holidays.

Anyone who wants to participate in the sign-waiving is asked to call Puna Community Policing Officers Michael Leite or Randall Aurello at the Keaau police station, 966-5835.
