MEDIA RELEASE

A 60-year-old Mountain View woman died Friday (December 9, 2005) from injuries she received in a two-vehicle crash on the Hawaii Belt Road (Route 11) and Kipimana Street at the entrance to the Shipman Industrial Park.

The victim was identified as Patricia Farley, of a Mountain View address.

Responding to a 5:17 p.m. call, Puna patrol officers determined that the victim was operating a 1994 Nissan four door-sedan and traveling east on Kipimana Street when she failed to yield the right of way and collided with a 1998 Ford Pick-up truck traveling south on Route 11.

The victim and her 13-year-old male passenger were transported to the Hilo Medical Center by Fire Rescue personnel. The victim was pronounced dead at 7:42 p.m. The 13 year-old was treated and released with minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford truck, a 44-year-old Pahoa man and his 30-year-old male passenger were not injured.

It is unknown at this time if speed or alcohol was involved and that all occupants were wearing their seat belts.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers have initiated a standard negligent homicide investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 34th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared to 39 at the same time last year.
