MEDIA RELEASE

Residents of the Hawaiian Shores and Hawaiian Beaches subdivisions will join Puna community policing officers Tuesday (October 10, 2000) in a sign-waving campaign reminding motorists to slow down.

Participants will wave signs next to Da Store on Kahakai Boulevard from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

One of the most common complaints police receive is about vehicles speeding through residential communities. And the sign-waving campaign is part of the Community Traffic Awareness Partnership, or C-TAP, a program designed to address traffic problems by involving police and residents in affected communities.

The basic goal of the program is to make roadways safer for the community by making motorists more aware of their driving.

Anyone with questions about the sign-waving or the C-TAP program may call Community Police Officers Greg Yamada, Michael Leite, Randall Aurello or Robert Almeida at the Keaau police station, 966-5835.
