MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

The Hawaii Police Department has identified the two Sunday evening gunshot victims as being John C. McDonald M-62, and his wife Doraline McDonald F-57, both residents of the Hawaiian Acres Subdivision in the District of Puna on the Big Island.

Mr. McDonald expired as the result of injuries he sustained and an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday (October 21, 2003) morning on the Big Island.

Mrs. McDonald remains confined at the Queens Medical Center where she is presently being treated for injuries she sustained as a result of the shooting.

Police have also located Nat Kalae Eckman, M-33, who was being sought for questioning in regards to the shooting. Police announced that Eckman was located within another Hawaiian Acres residence several miles from where the shooting took place. Eckman was located after officers from the Puna District responded to a report of a possible suicide victim and upon their arrival they located a male who was the victim of a gunshot wound and who was later pronounced dead at the Hilo Medical Center. Police were later able to determine that the victim was Nat Kalae Eckman and they have scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday, (October 21, 2003) to determine the exact cause of death.
