MEDIA RELEASE

A 61-year-old man was reported in critical condition at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu on Monday (November 24, 2003) after suffering an apparent assault in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision of Puna.

Responding to a 1:50 p.m. call Saturday, Puna patrol officers determined that the victim had apparently been assaulted on Road 6 in the subdivision. The victim had numerous injuries to his head and body, and officers found the remnants of nylon twine tied around his wrists and legs that had apparently been used to bind him.

The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center and later flown to Queen’s.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Detective Richard Sherlock of the East Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section at 961-2379 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. The numbers are answered 24 hours a day.
