Big Island police are again seeking the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for starting a fire at Waiakea High School on April 11, 2006.

The fire occurred in the early morning hours at the high school, located at 155 W. Kawili Street in Hilo. Police responded at approximately 1:15 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire. The property damage was estimated at $1.5 million.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Hawaii Police Department are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the arson at the school.

Two hotline numbers established in April are still in effect: 1-888-ATF-FIRE and local police at 961-2383. All calls are confidential.
