MEDIA RELEASE

Kona police investigating a kidnapping complaint have arrested and charged two juveniles with assault and then filed a false report case against the victim.

On Monday (May 13, 2002), Kealakehe High School officials called police and said a 15-year-old student had reported that two masked men kidnapped him from campus, took him to the Kaloko Ponds area of Honokohau Harbor, assaulted him and then returned him to the school campus.

After conducting an investigation, Kona Juvenile Aid Section detectives arrested two 15-year-old males at 10:37 a.m. Friday and charged them with second-degree assault and two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening.

After determining that there was no abduction from the school campus, detectives also initiated a false report case, which will be referred to Family Court.

The investigation determined that the victim had actually walked off campus and was not abducted, as he reported. In fact, the student was confronted by the students whom he knew and was assaulted while he was off campus.

The kidnapping case was closed as unfounded.
