REPORT NO. C06028532
Kona police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person or persons who broke into the Ke Kula ‘O ‘Ehunuikaimalino Hawaiian Immersion School in Kona sometime between 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday (September 10-11, 2006).
A school custodian reported shortly after 7 a.m. Monday that she found a window open in Cottage 6 of the school located on Konawaena School Road. School staff determined that the following items were missing from the building: an Apple laptop computer, an IBM laptop computer, a Kodak digital camera, a Sony video camera, an HP printer and five HP ink cartridges.
Staff at the school also determined that burglars broke a lock on a storage shed on campus and removed a Shindaiwa blower, a Shindaiwa trimmer/edger and a Shindaiwa weed whacker.
The combined value of the stolen items was estimated at more than $5,000.
Captain Paul Kealoha, commander of the Kona district, said police would appreciate any help the public can provide in identifying whoever was responsible for the burglary. “It is unfortunate that culprits would resort to stealing important learning tools from students actively involved in educational pursuits,” he said.
Kealoha asks anyone with information about the burglary to call Officer Steven Chung-Hoon at 326-4646, extension 253 or the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. All calls to Crime Stoppers are kept confidential.
