Second suspect arrested in Kona home invasion 10-11-03

Police have arrested and charged a second suspect in connection with a home invasion that occurred September 10, 2003, in Honaunau, South Kona.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Keliiaa Jr., 39, of Kealakekua.

At 6 p.m. Saturday (October 11, 2003), West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged him with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, kidnapping, second-degree theft, impersonating a police officers, use of a firearm during the commission a felony and four counts of illegal place to keep a firearm. He is being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $21,000 bail.

On Wednesday (October 8, 2003), police charged Bobby L. Macomber, 37, in connection with the home invasion. Macomber was charged with a variety of offenses, and his bail was set at $241,000.

CIS detectives executed a search warrant at a Kealakekua residence Thursday and recovered a 12-gauge Remington shotgun.

Learning that police were looking for a second suspect, Keliiaa turned himself the next day at the Kona police station.

During the course of the investigation, police also recovered a Colt AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, a Winchester Model 94 lever-action 30-30 rifle, a J & W Model 13 .375 magnum revolver and an Eddystone 30-06 bolt-action rifle.

The charges against Keliiaa stemmed from the September 10, 2003, invasion of a Honaunau home. In that incident, two armed men identifying themselves as police officers forced their way into the home, overpowered the victim, forced him to the ground and tied him up with duct tape. They then searched the home, stole cash and valuables and escaped on foot.
