The Silver Bullets beat out Kuupau to win the Golden Masters division in the SHOPO State Basketball Tournament held May 26-27 at the Kawananakoa Gymnasium in Keaukaha.

In the hotly contested game, Walter Ah Mow displayed an offensive exhibition worthy of an ESPN highlight clip to lead the Silver Bullets to the championship. He was named the division’s most valuable player and outstanding offensive player.

Elroy “No Look Pass” Osorio and Chad “Somebody Guard Me” Fukui, both of the Silver Bullets, came back from a 15-year hiatus to provide some inspirational play and some moves reminiscent of a bygone era.

Silver Bullets Leland “Animal” Pa, a defensive specialist and occasional scoring machine, was chosen the division’s outstanding defensive player.

The Golden Masters division’s most outstanding player was Steve “Hang Time” Guillermo of Kuupau.

Members of the Golden Masters division All-Star team were Greg “Pogo” Esteban, Tommy Waltjen, and Fukui from the Silver Bullets and Dexter “Who, Me?” Chaves and Ken “Kleenex” Vieira of Kuupau.

In the competitive Masters division, Bay City Blues lost a tough one to Bricklayers from Oahu in the finals and took second place.

Bay City Blues Uwao “Ironman” Chartrand was named the Masters division’s most outstanding player and played in all three divisions in the three-day tourney.

Robert “Wags” Wagner of the Bay City Blues was named the division’s outstanding defensive player.

Randy “Helicopter” Apele of Bay City Blues and Brian “Sub!” Miller of Kuma Construction were named to the Masters division All-Star team.

Team Big Island came up short in the championship game against Maui Police and won the second-place trophy in the Open division.

Kaui “Bring It” Wakita, a former high school and college standout made her presence known as she provided the hometown crowd with some dazzling plays. She was named the Open division’s most outstanding player.

Chartrand was named the division’s most defensive player.

Bit Island’s Aaron “Threeeee” Kaleo was named to the all-star team in the division. Kaleo was successful as tourney director in his first attempt at organizing this annual and statewide event.

The Big Island hosted this year’s event, which included teams from police departments thoughout the state of Hawaii.
