Report No. C09020455
The Hawai’i Police Department is investigating a burglary Tuesday (July 14) in South Kohala while the resident was home.
South Kohala patrol units were dispatched to a house on Hauhoa Place in response to a reported burglary in progress. The 46-year-old resident reported that he had discovered an unknown man inside on the second floor.
When the resident approached the intruder, the man fled the house and the homeowner gave chase. Once outside, another man approached the homeowner as he was calling the police. That man knocked the phone out of the homeowner’s hand and then got into a white Dodge van, which fled the area.
While conducting checks in the vicinity, patrol officers located a van matching the description and license plate.
Four door-to-door salespersons were inside the van, including a man identified as the suspected intruder. Investigation determined that the salespersons had been in the vicinity of the reported incident.
All four were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and taken to the South Kohala police station for processing and questioning. A 23-year-old Honolulu woman, a 24-year-old Kailua-Kona man and a 25-year-old California man were released pending further investigation.
Forty-six-year-old James Wilson of Kaneohe was transferred to the Kona police cellblock pending further investigation. Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.
