MEDIA RELEASE

Police have charged a 27-year-old male suspect with a variety of offenses after he was found sleeping in a stolen vehicle.

The suspect was identified as Star Aholelei, of no permanent address.

At 4 p.m. Wednesday (April 27, 2005), North Kohala patrol officers arrested Aholelei at Upolu Point when he was found sleeping in a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that morning.

At 3 p.m. Friday, West Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged Aholelei with three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts of terroristic threatening, one count of theft, one count of escape, one count of assault against a police officer and six traffic offenses. He was also arrested on a no-bail warrant for revocation of probation.

Aholelei is being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $17,800 bail. Because of his no-bail warrant, police said he will remain in custody until his court appearance.

Kona detectives are continuing their investigation of other cases where Aholelei is suspected of being responsible for vehicle thefts, burglaries and other related offenses.
