MEDIA RELEASE

A suspect arrested in a raid on a Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision residence was transferred to Honolulu Tuesday (April 16, 2002), where he was wanted on nine warrants.

The suspect, identified as Kenneth Kaleikini, 40, along with 41-year-old Rochelle Kim and a male juvenile were arrested Friday by Kona Vice Section officers acting on a search warrant executed at the Ka’u residence.

Pending further investigation into numerous drug, explosives and firearms offenses, police released the juvenile on Friday and Kim on Saturday.

Friday’s search warrant was initiated in response to numerous complaints from area residents who complained about drug activity, firearms violations, threats to individuals, thefts and burglaries.

During the raid, officers seized 29 grams of crystal methamphetamine, or “ice”; 59 grams of dried processed marijuana; 208 growing marijuana plants ranging in height from seedlings to three feet; hydrocodone pills; a 9-mm semi-automatic pistol; an altered .30-caliber rifle; a .45-caliber submachine gun; ammunition of various calibers; a blasting cap; and a seal bomb explosive.

Officers also recovered appliances, tools and other items determined to be stolen and valued at more than $1,000.

In addition to the search warrant offenses, Kaleikini was wanted on nine warrants from Honolulu and held on bail exceeding $20,000.

During the raid, vice officers were assisted by the Hawaii County Police Department’s Special Response Team, the Kona Criminal Investigation Section, the Ka’u Patrol Division and federal agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
