MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Kona detectives arrested a 24-year-old suspect Thursday (July 12, 2001) in the death of Alden Pauline, who died at the Kona Community Hospital after he was found unconscious in a public park.

The suspect was identified as Anthony Eagle, also known as Anthony Mutair, of Kailua-Kona, who turned himself into police.

Eagle was arrested at 4:10 p.m. for second-degree murder. Later, after conferring with the prosecutor’s office, police released him pending further investigation and possible grand jury action.

Kona CIS detectives are continuing their murder investigation into the death.

Preliminary autopsy results Tuesday indicated that the Pauline, 46, of a Kailua-Kona address, died as a result of physical assault with blunt force trauma to the head.

Police had received call at 10:05 p.m. Sunday that a man was lying on the ground at the Kahaluu Beach parking lot. Responding officers called fire rescue personnel, who treated the victim for head injuries and took him to the Kona hospital for further treatment. At 11:32 a.m. Monday, Pauline was pronounced dead at the hospital.
