Twelve Graduate From 59th Police Recruit Class 06-29-01

|SWEARING IN — The 12 members of the 59th Police Recruit Class are sworn in during draduation ceremonies at the Nani Mau Gardens outside Hilo. The new officers will be assigned to vereran police officers around the island to undergo another three and a half months of field training.|
The Hawaii County Police Department welcomed 12 new police officers into its ranks Friday (June 29, 2001).
The 12 were members of the 59th Police Recruit Class, who graduated during luncheon ceremonies held at the Nani Mau Gardens in Hilo. The new officers recently completed 25 weeks of training.
They will be assigned to veteran police officers around the island and will undergo another three and a half months of field training. After that, they will be assigned initially to cellblocks in East and West Hawaii.
Friday’s graduates were: Scott P. Amaral, Tod S. Bello, Darryl Castillo, Duffy K. Duldulao, Jeffrey A. Flores, Michael D. Hardie, Paul Isotani, Lawrence M. Kobayashi, Jeremy S. Lewis, Shawn W. Tingle, Bruce A. Tyrin and Robert E. Wolverton.
Officers of the recruit class were Lewis, president; Duldulao, vice president; and Kobayashi, secretary-treasurer.
Bello was named as the outstanding recruit; Amaral won the academic award; Lewis won the physical fitness award; Wolverton earned the firearm award; and Duldulao was recognized for keeping the best notebook.
Trainers for the graduating recruits were Sergeant Jay N. Enanoria and Officers Wayne Hisashima and Jason Shinoda.
