MEDIA RELEASE

Two armed men forced their way into a Honaunau residence in South Kona, tied up a 49-year-old male occupant and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash and valuables Wednesday morning (September 10, 2003).

Responding to an 8:30 a.m. call of a burglary in progress, Kona Patrol officers determined that between 8 and 8:15 a.m., two men armed with two handguns and a shotgun forced their way into the home, overpowered the victim, forced him to the ground and tied him up with duct tape. They then searched the home, stole cash and valuables and left on foot to an unknown location.

The robbers were described only as an older Filipino male and a younger local male.

Kona Patrol officers have initiated a burglary, robbery and kidnapping investigation into the home invasion, and Hawaii Criminal Investigation Section detectives are continuing the investigation into the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identities of the robbers is asked to call Detective William Souther of the West Hawaii CIS at 326-4231 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.
