MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE

Hawaii County police are still seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing Puna woman. The whereabouts of 74 year-old Elizabeth Christensen, of the Fern Forest subdivision are still unknown.

A media release posted yesterday (May 19, 2006) contained a photograph of the victim which has been called into question. There is some doubt that the photograph obtained from a family friend depicts Elizabeth Christensen. The above photograph appears on Ms. Christensen’s State of Hawaii driver’s license taken in July of 2004. We apologize for any confusion.

Christensen was last seen on Monday afternoon (May 15, 2006) near the Fern Forest Community association building. She was on foot and was wearing blue denim trousers, a yellow sweater and a blue jacket. She may be suffering from a mental disorder. Although she was not with her dog when last seen, she is usually accompanied by her medium-sized brown colored dog with medium length fur and a red collar. The dog is unaccounted for and may be in her company.

The woman was reported missing Thursday evening (May 18, 2006) by family members. Early the following morning, a ground and aerial search was conducted by Fire/Rescue personnel as well as investigators from the police department to include the recently acquired scent discriminating tracking dog. The all-day search did not yield any positive results.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Ms. Christensen is asked to contact police at the non-emergency number (808) 935-3311. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept strictly confidential.
