Police are advising Hilo motorists that because Big Island schools will close for the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, normal two-way traffic patterns will be in effect on weekdays from December 21, 2006, through January 11, 2006.

The usual weekday one-way traffic patterns will not be in effect until school resumes on January 12, 2007.

On school days, traffic on Waianuenue Avenue below Komohana Street flows one-way in the makai direction from 7:15 to 8 a.m.. During the same hours, traffic along Kapiolani Street between Haili Street and Waianuenue Avenue flows one-way in the Puna direction.
