MEDIA RELEASE

South Kohala police have arrested and charged a 24-year-old man with attempted robbery and terroristic threatening for an incident that occurred earlier this month.

The suspect, identified as Lindsey King Rego, was arrested and charged Wednesday (March 20, 2002) and held overnight in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $7,300 bail.

The suspect was arrested for an incident that occurred on March 9 at a Waimea gas station. Acting on an anonymous tip Wednesday, South Kohala patrol officers went to a residence on Kamanawa Street in Waimea and found the suspect sleeping inside. He was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants and transported to the Waimea Police Station, where he was later arrested for the attempted robbery and terroristic threatening offenses.

Rego was only the latest suspect identified as taking part in a series of recent crimes in the South Kohala District.

Police previously had identified two juvenile suspects who were allegedly involved in other burglaries and thefts in the Waikoloa area.

To date, these suspects are believed to have been involved in 11 burglaries, 12 thefts, one attempted robbery and one terroristic threatening incident.

Investigations into these cases have resulted in the recovery of property with a value estimated at more than $8,500.

The police department would like to thank the public for its cooperation and assistance in providing information in helping identify the suspects and recovery of stolen property, a spokesman said.
